Support Atitlán Women Weavers
Help us raise $14,000 and save our cooperative!
Lago Atitlán is a beautiful lake located in the heart of Guatemala that is home to many local indigenous communities as well as people from around world. This region has seen many changes in recent years with the increasing number of visitors passing through and the development of new hostels, restaurants, and local bars.
Two and a half years ago, a local Mayan woman named Anita established a women's weaving cooperative by the lake called Atitlán Women Weavers/ Mujeres Tejedoras de Atitlán. This cooperative is dedicated to providing sustainable economic opportunities for indigenous women across the region, many of whom are single mothers. As members of the cooperative, they are able to sell their traditional handwoven products in the shop and receive 75% of the profits made from each product. This allows them to support their families and share a beautiful piece of the Mayan culture with the world. |

Anita and these women are currently trying to purchase the property of the cooperative by March 2018 so that it can continue to support the local community. They have dedicated their work over the past several months to raise the funds needed to purchase the property and keep it in their hands. They have reached 65% of their goal and only have $14,000 more to go. This is a big project, but with the help of friends and family around the world, they can reach this goal and continue to see their local cooperative grow to support many more families across the region. We hope you can lend a hand by making a donation.
